How To Use Your Business Website To Collect Data on Prospects

Why do you have a business website?

Well, it serves two primary purposes.

First, it’s a place where potential customers or your existing clients can find out about your products and services, read your blog, or get in touch with you.

And secondly, it’s a handy tool for gathering information on your visitors so that you can reconnect with them later, perhaps on social media.

In this article, let’s focus on the latter part – collecting information.

But First, Get a Business Website

First things first, you need a website. But not just any website – it should be functional, well-optimized, and well-designed.

What does that mean? It means creating a website that can gather data without making visitors feel pressured and ensuring that the collected information is well-organized.

For example, when gathering emails, names, and phone numbers, you should integrate an email service provider like Mailerlite or Mailchimp.

How To Collect Information on a Website

There are three simple ways to gather information:

1. Through a Giveaway – Free Ebooks or PDFs

Offering something for free is an excellent way to obtain contact information. If your website is all about recipes, why not create a new recipe, convert it into a PDF, and share it with your visitors? You can promote it with a pop-up or have a dedicated section on your web pages that highlights the free PDF with your special recipe.

2. Including a Subscription Field on Your Website

Another straightforward method is to have a subscription section on your website.

Adding a subscribe section on your website

You can place it at the end of each blog article or on the homepage for easy access.

3. Contact Form

Don’t overlook the power of a contact form. Many users may have questions about different aspects of your business. Not only does this help you understand their needs, but it also provides insights into the services that interest them. This allows you to tailor offers to their specific interests.

Using an Email Service Provider to Manage Data

Now, let’s talk about using Mailerlite for organizing data and reconnecting with your visitors.

First, you’ll need to create a Mailerlite account and connect it to your WordPress website using their API. But before connecting, make sure you’ve set up groups or segments.

What’s a segment?

It’s like sorting your contact information into different categories. For instance, contacts collected through the contact form should be in a separate group.

Within that group, you can further categorize them, such as distinguishing general inquiries from those seeking a quote. Likewise, keep a distinct group for users who subscribe to your blog or newsletter.

In a nutshell, your business website isn’t just a digital presence – it’s a valuable tool for gathering information on potential clients. With the right approach and tools, you can turn casual visitors into long-term customers and engage with them in a more personalized way.
