SEO in Kenya has been on a slight increase over the years, however, there is still a lot of work and sensitization that needs to be done for the market to really appreciate the role SEO has to play in advertising and the digital space as a whole.

What is SEO?

SEO is simply the continuous process of improving one’s website ranking on search engines with the main goal of being easily found when users search for products and services in your industry.

Is SEO important? Is SEO a must for all businesses?

SEO is important for businesses that its audience are found online. Let’s put it into perspective. Ask yourself, how many times do you use Google to search? Do you find answers to this questions?

I’m guessing yes is the answer to the first question. Smart phones have become easily accessible and with internet penetration steadily rising in the African continent, Google searches have increased ten fold.

How long does it take to rank on the first page of Google?

There is no set time to rank your website high on any search engines. The metrics used for example by Google to determine if your website will rank high are many with most of them being a well kept secret.

But there are certain steps one can take to increase their chances.

  • Have relevant and action oriented content.
  • Create YouTube videos
  • Have permalinks and Title tags/Meta description that pulls a user to click on your site
  • Have a fast loading website
  • Create content on social media pages that will lead users to visit your website.
  • Share your website link with friends and colleagues

These steps must be done consistently to ensure you first improve your page rankings and once you do so, it helps you maintain that ranking.

Can I perform/implement SEO by myself?

The answer is yes and no.

When it comes to creating content, you can do this on your own. You can write articles and blogs on industry topics. You can also make videos and post them on YouTube.

It really varies with your budget.

SEO mostly focuses on organic activities such as creating content, ensuring your site speed is optimum, getting backlinks, and more.
